FAITH IN OUR PEOPLE

Chiluly in the Desert

Taken at the Desert Botanical Museum in Phoenix. The Chiluly exhibit is a temporary exhibit, soon to disappear. I could not imagine the museum without the Chiluly. It adds so much to an already great experience.

Rapt attention

I was prescient and lucky enough to stick the 500mm on the camera when I went home last night. The Red tailed mother hawk is nesting and it will be fledges any day now, and if I am lucky I will catch a nascent look at the eyass. Which means I have to watch very carefully.

Went to get the newspaper from the mailbox (which is 2 miles away) this morning and saw the osprey sitting perched on a high, far sycamore branch on my narrow river canyon road. There are lots of fat fish in the river. I fumbled around with the settings, got off the phone and jumped out of the van but was only able to snap two shots before he bailed, I think that I may have pissed him off. In an interesting twist, the sultry tones of the song Last lonely eagle by the New Riders of the Purple Sage was playing on the radio and the dulcet tones of Jerry Garcia's pedal steel guitar warmed the day. By the way, the osprey is also known as the sea eagle.

Not perfect shots but I am getting my toe in the water.

Should be a great year for the raptors, hope you don't get tired of the pics.

Palomar dome

I think that I will fight with this one a little more.

This is a tighter cyanotype with a more Buck Rogers feel.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

And here milords and ladies is what you get when you dry traditional photographic prints during a Santa Ana.  Luckily I have a small dry mount press that can flatten 'em out.

PS:  I will be happy to build a Professional Drying Apparatus like mine at your house for only $5.00.  Please provide the fluorescent fixtures.

Report From the People's Censor

I think Robert called it right in recommending that someone monitor posts to this blog.  We do get a fair amount of spam that seems randomly targeted at old and new posts.  Usually there are a few a day.  Today was atypical, there were nine this AM.  So, I guess monitoring is worth the effort.

I dreamt about my dad last night. I was in a hospital getting cataract surgery and he was wandering in and out of the adjoining rooms disrupting people's surgeries. He didn't know what was going on. He has severe dementia. My brother was with him in the dream.

My dad lives in an alzheimer's group home in Fresno. He doesn't know my name any more. His life is probably very much the same from day to day.
