CURVE

Sauerwein

As most of you are aware, Thomas Sauerwein has sold his house and will be leaving our fair shores, joining his wife back east.

Tom is an extremely talented photographer and his input will be missed. Tom had the initial inspiration for this blog, which in its earliest manifestation was called Redneck Shutters. I will miss his excellent contributions to our annual photography show and the professional skill and discipline with which he approaches the captured image.

Here is a picture from this morning's meeting of the Shutters at the coffee shop. Tom and Kip are discussing the qualitative differences of the new Fuji rangefinder versus Kip's Leica in an old fashioned A/B test.

Good luck Tom and stay in touch!

Burning The Clouds

This is my first experience at burning, so am not sure what to expect. Thanks again for the hints.

Interior of Nick's House

I posted the exterior of my friend, Nick's, house on Kauai. This is an interior shot. It is a little slice of heaven there. Nick is an iconic guy, one of the first surfer's on Kauai, well known throughout the island and he is active in trying to tame development across the island, particularly in Hanalei.. The surfboards he has hanging on the walls all have historical significance. This is a small house that was re-built after Hurricane Iniki destroyed the original house.

Crow Cropped, Straightened and Sepia'd.

previsualization

I found this very interesting post on previsualizing your photographic art today.

Waikiki Sunset #2

Nick's House on Kauai

My friend's house at Hanalei. I stayed there in September. A little piece of paradise!!!

Taro on Kauai ( Version 2)

I cloned out the tree on the upper right. I have learned that when cloning, it doesn't have to be perfect, just believable. I think this is believable.

I also toned down the saturation a bit at the suggestion of the Blue Heron.

on drugs now

I made it through the rotator cuff surgery all ok today. We got back home before LA rush hour thank goodness. The pain is tolerable thanks to Vicodin and a neat little box that pumps ice water through a sleeve around my right shoulder.

See you all at coffee as soon as possible. Hopefully this Saterday.
Since my right arm is pretty much immobile except when I take it out of the sling to do the prescribed exercises,

I'm typing with my left hand and using my Wacom tablet and stylus instead of the mouse.  Works really neat! Being somewhat ambidextrous helps, too.

Nicaraguan Sunset

Taken Last June while in Nicaragua.

Lucky Again

Lauren was lucky again this week in the sense of hanging out with high ranking municipal officials. We were taking a short self guided tour of the San Francisco City Hall on Tuesday where she bumped into the SF Chief of Police, Gregory Suhr. Of course a photo op ensued.
