  2. Nice tonal range with the full light and dark on the cross beam. If you have lightroom you might want to put a gentle gradient on top or experiment with the vignette filter tools. Might take a skoche more off the top. The picture is far more interesting now, the colors were incidental. Clouds have a lot more import.

  3. Nice, Michael. I agree with the Blue Heron... I think you could easily crop about 1/2 off of the sky. Nothing is happening there and you can afford to lose it. Concentrates interest in the bird and clouds... that is what is importante!!!

Thanks again for the input, gentlemen. I'm only 5 years into photography and I appreciate the suggestions from those of you who've been at it longer. I find learning part of the high of taking photos. (And now I'm going to chop away 1/2 of the sky in the image).

  6. Find the sweet spot, might not be half. Your photo, your eye. Look at it at several heights. You might consider burning the cloud highlight bottom right just a touch too.

  7. Blue Heron mentioned burning in the cloud highlight at the bottom right corner. There is a general rule in photo composition that you don't want bright spots in the photo that take your eye away from the main subject. Our eyes are attracted to the brightest areas. If the brightest areas are not the main subject, they should be toned down. This is especially true when the bright areas are at the edges. They tend to take your eye away from the main subject.

I hope this helps. We are all learning!!!
