I'm
SO proud of my son, Kenny. Today he passed his dissertation defense for
his Doctorate in Education at UCLA. This photo was taken just before he
made his presentation. Click on the photo to see the title slide of his
dissertation. Kenny is presently the Assistant Principle for
Instruction at North High School in Bakersfield, CA. He spent the last 3
1/2 years working on his doctorate on nights and weekends driving to
UCLA twice a week from Bakersfield.

Out of the Green #2
I posted the first version of this a few days ago. It shows the whole wave and the rider in context. For this one, I cropped in quite a bit and it takes the guy out of the context of the wave, however, I think it is more powerful.

Out of the Green
Taken on Big Wednesday, August 27th at Brooks St., Laguna. This is not a huge wave by big wave standards, it is big, however, for Laguna.

Crystal Mill, Gunnison County, Colorado
I've wanted to see and make photographs of the Crystal Mill in Colorado for about 40 years. The mill is up in the mountains from Marble, Colorado. The drive takes about one hour for the 6 miles on a narrow, very rocky 4X4 road. I rented a jeep to get there. Was in 4 wheel drive, low range all the way.

For Your Amusement
The top image (less sky) was shot with a Leica M6 and Summicron-M f/2 50mm lens of about 1996. The bottom image (more sky) was shot with a Pentax K-1000 and an SMC Pentax 50mm lens of about 1982. Both images were made on the same roll of film (moved from one camera body to the other). Both scanned with a Nikon film scanner using the same settings. Both are magnified to 100% (actual pixels) Results are quite similar methinks. I am sure there are about 1,000,000 caveats and such to mutter about. Still, to me it looks like "It ain't the meat its the motion" when it comes to photographic equipment.

Lower Antelope Canyon, Page, AZ
I took the photographers' tour of Lower Antelope Canyon on Sept. 7. I arrived just before midday when the light is best, coming straight down between the sandstone walls of the canyon. This is a 5 exposure HDR.
