Brigitte

I like this shot. It was candid. People have suggested that it would be stronger if I cropped out the shoes or shopped them but I don't want to mess with the aspect ratio, or risk harming the composition.

Hey the shoes were there, Happens in life sometimes.

  1. I like this... leave the shoes... it adds context.

  2. That is what makes photography so challenging. An image comes along with everything going for it but one element. The shoes aren't perfect but they do lead to the figure and they aren't right on the edge, so I think disaster is prevented.

Removing those shoes and preserving the texture and shadows on the floor would really take a master. At the end of such a job the image might not look better with the larger light grey space. Who knows? Is there a genius in the house?

  3. I agree with Mike, leave the shoes. They're one of those image elements that stops the viewer in their tracks. Why are the shoes there? Is the girl putting on her flip-flops or taking them off? When Karon & I lived on Lana'i and Maui, this is the way the entrance to everyone's house looked. As with the Japanese, people didn't wear shoes in the house.

  4. It is a bali, thai style house that follows the custom of no shoes. Believe the lovely Brigitte is doffing her sandals.

  5. I think the shoes are an important feature in the image also the light floating without suspension is a great asset to the image, The figure using outside light as its light source is cool as well although, she would have had more of an impact a bit more centered same pose however.

  6. I like it a lot... The soft gray tones of the interior are really beautiful.
