I have posted several sunsets here in the past months. I know that sunsets are often pooh-poohed by real photographers. I guess they are too easy with the great colors. I happen to like them. Tom Sauerwein recently called me "King of the Sunsets". I wear that title as a badge of honor. Here are a couple from Morro Bay this past week. These were taken with my new Canon 16-35 mm 2.8 lens. I had a graduated ND on for the top photo
It seems like one could go in a lot of directions with sunsets in a series. One could do sunsets in lots of different contexts, sunset over the ghetto or the "Occupy" camp. Sunsets over pristine landscapes and junkyards. Sunsets through window of a Hospice. A sunset over my bald head. Or one can just have a good time shooti'n them where it is fun to shoot 'em.
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived on Maui and were involved with sunset Weddings, there was an artist who came to the beach at Kapalua every evening to paint the sunset. He would finish his project in the time it took for a Wedding Ceremony to unfold and then offer the piece to the Bride & Groom. ($125). We still have one hanging on the wall.
ReplyDeleteA few years back, we attended a street fair in Oceanside, where we visited a photographer's booth. One of the pieces he was offering was a poster-size collage of 365 sunsets he'd shot over the previous year. (Can't remember the price, but it was reasonable). It was a trip. Standing back from it, the colors blended and the juju was psychedelic.
ReplyDeleteFinally, there are sunset photographs (fine art), and then there are sunset photographs (Facebook). Keep up the good work, Mike.
