Petzval Portrait Lens Reissue

Here we go boys and girls, the Petzval Protrait lens of 1840 reissued in Nikon and Canon mounts by Lomography of Russia.  This was the first mathematically calculated lens made by the worlds first camera company Voigtlander in Germany.  It is rich in field curvature and other aberrations and produces an interesting rather romantic image.   Get yours for a low $400.00 which is very low compared to the cost of the surviving originals.  It is in a brass barrel like the original and uses Waterhouse stops yet.   Judging from the color saturation the reissue is probably multicoated.

  2. Sorry to create a false impression. The image is from the promotional material for the lens.

  3. Darn, I was going to ask you for the models contact info.
I kind of think the bokeh is a bit to busy. Perhaps it could be toned down with local contract reduction.
My old manual focus Nikkor 1.4s have a similar effect wide open.

  4. The bokeh in the Pertzval is extra intense, even more so in the original. I am thinking of a portrait of Gen. Grant that looks like it has a psychedelic background.
